Donie O'Sullivan: A Footballer, Once

€20.00

DONIE O’SULLIVAN WAS THE FIRST KERRYMAN to win an All Star award, when he was chosen at right corner-back on the inaugural team of 1971. He had won three All-Ireland medals with his county by then (1962, 69 and 70) and won a fourth in 1975. O’Sullivan also won seven National League medals with Kerry, despite a career which brought him far and wide and had him playing with Clanna Gael in Dublin, UCD and the Kerry team in New York. He also lined out for Spa, Killarney and Dr Crokes in his home county. O’Sullivan retained his |All Star award in 1972, but by that stage he may have become an American footballer. A renowned kicker of a dead ball and drop kick, the New York Jets offered him a trial to be a kicker in the 1960s, but he declined.
